Federal Homebuyer Tax Credit: Things to Know
- The extended $8,000* Federal Homebuyer Tax Credit for first-time buyers is available to individuals who have not owned a principal residence in the last 3 years.
- The expanded $6,500 Federal Homebuyer Tax Credit for repeat buyers is available to individuals who have owned and lived in their principal residence for 5 consecutive years out of the last 8 years.
- You must contract on your new home by April 30, 2010 and must close on the purchase by June 30, 2010.
- Single taxpayers with incomes up to $125,000 and married taxpayers with incomes up to $225,000 qualify for the full tax credit.
